The scarlet fever rash is caused from having streptococcus. This rash looks like a sunburn and can
spead all over the body except the palms of hands and the soles of feet. This rash can last up to nine days. The
rash will make the skin very rough like sandpaper. The bacteria that causes this rash is the same type that causes
strep throat. This rash will tend to be even redder in appearance in the armpit or groin area. This rash is a
symptom of scarlet fever. This rash is contagious through direct contact of the infected person, such as mucus,
saliva, or any nasal discharge.
Some people refer to the scarlet fever rash as strep throat rash. If you or a member of your family is diagnosed
with the scarlet fever rash then the healthcare provider will treat the rash with antibiotics. The antibiotics will
kill the bacteria causing the scarlet fever rash. You must be sure to tell your doctor if you are allergic to
penicillin. Along with the scarlet fever rash you will experience fever and body aches. Ibuprofen can be used to
help reduce the body aches and fever.
If the bacteria that causes the scarlet fever rash has spread to other surrounding tissues it can lead to
serious medical complications such as rheumatic fever, fifth disease, and bloodstream infections. This rash is very
common in children that are under the age of eighteen. Children who have the scarlet fever rash will also have
fever, sore throat, rash, and chills. It is less common today due to vaccines. Children also experience symptoms of
having a red face, swollen lymph glands, and their tongue will look similar to a strawberry. They may also
experience nausea, headaches, vomiting, and body aches.
The doctor will ask many questions to make the diagnosis. He will also ask family medical history questions
along with an examination before a diagnosis is made. It is very important that your doctor makes the correct
diagnosis because scarler fever rash can spread rapidly and cause other serious medical complications. The doctor
will also take a throat culture. This is a very simple procedure that requires the throat to be rubbed with a swab
to test for the infection that causes this condition. The bacteria can spread to the brain or the heart if not
properly treated. This can really be a serious life and death matter.
Scarlet fever can lead to sinus infections and ear infections. This disorder can be controlled with the proper
medication. This rash begins as tiny red bumps. It first begins on the chest and stomach and can spread to other
areas of the body. After the rash is gone the skin will peel on the tips of fingers and toes. During the time time
that you have the rash it is very important that you get a lot of rest. Drinking warm liquids and eating soup will
also help you to feel better. Stay hydrated because fever can easily cause you to become dehydrated.
Since the rash is contagious the person should be kept away from others to prevent the spreading of the
infection. To prevent the spreading of this rash it is impirtant that the person takes antibiotics for at least 24
hours before being exposed to someone else.
